Keith James, city commissioner and mayoral candidate of West Palm Beach (WPB), today launches the Neighborhoods First Initiative

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, January 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Keith James, city commissioner and mayoral candidate of West Palm Beach (WPB), today launches the Neighborhoods First Initiative, a strategic plan to foster community input, neighborhood city improvement ideas and ensure the voices of WPB are heard.

As the first major initiative of any candidate running for Mayor, James continues to lead the way in putting forward plans and policies of his administration. He has been hosting events in each district across the city and hundreds of people have attended to hear his vision and plan. Through the Neighborhoods First Initiative, James provides a direct line of communication between local residents and the Mayor’s office guaranteeing voices are heard for a stronger, healthier and happier city.

“I am proud to announce my Neighborhoods First Initiative. It’s a plan to ensure each and every West Palm Beach neighborhood is listened to, their ideas are taken into consideration and that we are all working together to make our community a great place to live, work and raise a family,” James stated. “Our neighborhoods are the jewels that define our city and as Mayor, I am going to work to make sure neighborhood issues and projects are prioritized and getting done sooner. The advisory groups that are formed out of my Neighborhoods First Initiative will provide valuable feedback and ideas to help shape policy and direction.”

James asks those who are interested in participating in the Neighborhoods First Initiative to register online at www.KeithJamesForMayor.com/neighborhoods-first. Once registered, participants will be enrolled for the Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Group. Each neighborhood will have their own advisory group that James will meet with now, and as Mayor of WPB, to discuss neighborhood priorities and ideas for the future.

What are you doing for others?

Today I joined with nearly 1,000 Palm Beach County community leaders and local advocates to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Words alone cannot express the energy in the room. This passion was rooted not only in celebrating Dr. King’s legacy, but in the drive each and every one of us shared in carrying forward Dr. King’s mission of creating a more just, equal and fair society.

Dr. King asked it best:

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?”

We each accomplish this goal in many different ways. All my life I have worked to help give an opportunity to the powerless, assistance to the downtrodden, and a voice to the voiceless.

In my experience, service comes in many shapes and forms. Whether as a father, encouraging my children to work hard and pursue their dreams; as a young lawyer, helping people overcome adversity so they can achieve their aspirations; in the community, volunteering with our non-profits and organizations to help others move forward; or as a City Commissioner, working to create a community of opportunity for all our residents – Dr. King’s message of service has been a foundation of my life’s work.

What my life has taught me is you don’t need to have a title to be of service. You don’t need to be an elected leader to make a difference in your community. People every day are helping others in their own families, communities and cities. Dr. King’s message of service rings true today, perhaps at a time when we need to hear it the most.

While today we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., it’s the challenge to answer his question not only today, but tomorrow and so forth, that will truly make a difference.

“What are you doing for others?” It’s a question that I have answered daily and one that will continue to be a foundation of my life’s work.

Keith James

Happy Thanksgiving

Friends,

Lorna and I send our prayers and wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving. Whether with family, friends or loved ones, I hope you enjoy the memories and moments that make this holiday truly special.

My two children are flying in to visit and I look forward to spending time with them. Keith Jr. and Amber are two of my greatest accomplishments and two of the many blessings in my life.

Lorna and I will be visiting with her family as we create new Thanksgiving traditions as husband and wife. Another blessing.

Thanksgiving always brings out the best in us. It keeps me grounded on what’s important in life.

As I watch the devastation with the wildfires in California or wreckage from Hurricane Michael across the state or the difficulties that many in our community here at home go through on a daily basis, it reminds me of the little things in life — a family that cares, good friends, food on the table, clothes on your back and a roof over your head – that make today a blessing.

We all go through struggles; challenges that confront us and require us to make tough choices. I know from experience and from working with others that life throws curveballs. How we meet those challenges, learn from them and grow is what’s important.

Today I am grateful for the challenges I have overcome and I am counting the blessings I have received.

Wishing you a blessed, joyous and Happy Thanksgiving.

Yours in service,

Keith James
